NHS Lifeline

A vital charity platform raising awareness of donor breast milk for premature babies—giving NICU Support's life-saving service a powerful digital voice that reassures frightened families, recruits donors and champions the remarkable volunteers behind the UK's Blood Bikes community.

creating-foundation

NHS Lifeline had an urgent and life-saving mission—what they needed was a platform that could reach families at their most vulnerable moment. With 1 in 12 babies born prematurely in the UK, the challenge was creating a reassuring, informative space that felt warm and hopeful rather than clinical and frightening. Donor breast milk can double a premature baby's survival chances—yet most families had never heard of NICU units or the importance of donated milk. The platform needed to speak to anxious parents, potential donors and healthcare professionals simultaneously, keeping hope and reassurance at the heart of every page.

NHS Lifeline understood that families arriving at this platform needed comfort first, information second. The design celebrates the remarkable resilience of premature babies—from Stevie Wonder to Sir Isaac Newton—whilst communicating the urgent need for donor support. Real stories from real mums, told in their own words, build the trust and reassurance that statistics alone never could. Warm, accessible language and authentic imagery work together to turn awareness into action—because when families discover they are not alone, and that 1 in 12 babies arrive early, the desire to support this vital service becomes irresistible.

The results reflect a community rallying behind something truly important—a donor breast milk service running continuously since 2011, supported by dedicated Blood Bikes volunteers giving their time freely. The annual cycling challenge—from John O'Groats to Land's End in 2010 to the 15th Anniversary Cadbury Challenge in 2026—has become the heartbeat of the charity's fundraising and community spirit. Every family reassured becomes an advocate. Every donor recruited saves lives. NHS Lifeline isn't just a website—it's a lifeline in the truest sense, connecting vulnerable families with the support, reassurance and donor milk that gives the UK's most fragile babies the very best chance of life.
